My daughter lives in UC Riverside's dorm and she sleeps up in a loft. The ceiling comes in an angle and there's not a lot of vertical space. They didn't provide a box spring so her mattress was placed directly on the carpeted floor. Thank goodness for this steel bed frame. It is so compact that we were able to carry it to her room up on a steep ladder that they have for her to climb up. Her mattress is now 14 inches raised from the floor but she still has room above her head when she's sitting on it.
